Let’s face it. Every musician has aspirations at some point of just making music for a very comfortable living. Unfortunately, achieving this takes a lot of work or an incredible amount of good fortune. Today I want to put out a simple premise on how to achieve this goal for those of you who are interested. What I want you to do is follow a simple idea based around the task list approach of Getting Things Done. Reading articles on this site or any of the wonderful others out there discussing aspects of the music business, can provide you with a lot of things to put on your task list. But creating a task list, no matter how in depth and well thought out, still doesn’t get you any closer to the goal. Actually DOING what is on the list gets you closer to the goal. When you look at your list and try to figure out what to do, just take a simpler approach. Do just ONE thing. That’s right. Just one thing. Pick one item on your list of things to do each day and do it. No matter how much effort and time is involved doesn’t matter. Just pick ONE thing from your list and do it each day. Stick with this plan and you’ll see your list dwindle away and your career grow.
