Touring is a major source of income for musical acts, yet it is not the only way to make decent money as a musician. There are many other ways to make income without going on a lengthy tour. So let’s take a look at some of your options.

  • You can post YouTube videos of your songs and link to them on iTunes. You can also record your own unique cover versions of popular tunes. Then your version will show up near the original version when someone searches for it.
  • Play local private events such as house parties or weddings.
  • Find a local house gig and play the same place every week.
  • With advances in technology, you can now offer recording and writing services to anyone anywhere in the world.
  • Teach lessons locally on your instrument.
  • Teach other musically oriented skills such as songwriting, recording, etc….
  • Be available for fill-in gigs and let other local musicians know it.
  • Offer to act as a booking agent for other local artists.
  • Sell merch at local gigs and online through sites such as Zazzle or Cafepress.

The list of options for making extra money can go on and on. Just take this list as a starter and keep your mind open to knew options as they come along.
